Great facilities - clean, comfortable rooms (but limited space for large open suitcases), public onsen bath, free fresh filter coffee (self serve machine in lobby), free ice cream lollies (self serve freezer), free ramen in restaurant (from 9:30pm), free washing machines (3-4 located in public bath changing room) with separate dryers (for a fee) & great buffet breakfast (Japanese & smaller Western food selection, ¥2280 per person, Feb25). In-room TV also displays how busy the public bath is, so you can decide when to visit; with long operating hours. Men & Women public baths are separate with an entry code system used for the women's public bath. Yukatas and towels are provided in your room for use. In the public bath, hotel also provides shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hair brush & hairdryers and secured lockers (with key). Hotel also offers an electronic queuing system for the buffet breakfast; else you can walk in (if not busy) or queue at the entrance for a table. The electronic queue is convenient for weekends & public holidays when it gets very busy. You will be notified by email when your table is available; then you have 15 minutes from notification to get to the restaurant before your table is re-allocated. Hotel location is great for the JR Otaru station with a 7-Eleven, fresh bakery, Burger King & other local food options. Plenty of other restaurants & cafes close to the hotel, with a mall & large basement supermarket across the road. Also close to car hire companies, and with an affiliated car park that can be accessed from the hotel lobby. Bus stop for pre-reserved bus to Kiroro Snow World & ski resorts is also 3-minute walk away, across the road. Luggage can be stored before check-in and after check-out.

The views..... On the right was the Otaru Station and Bus Terminal. On the left was a view of the sea. And all around the background, all i see was the mountains. On a clear day, just looking out the bedroom window, the view was breathtaking. How i wish we had stayed just a little bit longer. Otaru in itself is beautiful. After a long day, a trip to the in-house onsen was perfect. I feel that the hotel sets itself apart from others with thoughtful gestures. We came early as with Otaru, everything shuts early by 5pm during winter. We were welcomed with a smile and were offered to keep our baggages before the 3pm check-in. Later while registering, our family made ourselves comfortable on the sofa with a cup of coffee available on the house from the coffee machine at the reception lobby. In the lift on our way up, there is even a built-in corner seat for those in need. Something i have never seen before. Our room was beautifully furnished ala the ole-skool Japanese decor. It really created a nice ambience. We simply loved it! There was complimentary water bottles and...get this...cool jellies in the fridge. That night, when we went to the onsen, there was complimentary ice cream and even instant ramen for late night indulgence! We truly enjoyed our stay at the Dormy Inn. We would definitively come back again on our next trip to Otaru.

Great location ever, right at the opposite of JR Otaru station. Room layout is good, separated sink and shower/toilet room. Clean and well organized room layout. Super comfy bed. Onsen is good, both indoor and outdoor onsen with brand new hari dryer. Free popsicle and icecrem provdied after onsen. Also have free flow ramen from 21:30 - 23:00. Good breakfast with DIY kaisen don, famous hokkaido menu and good bakery. Staffs are warm welcome and supportive. With new kiosk check in, you can easily check in / check out.

Very nice staff although only a few spoke basic english (understandable in Japan but as more and more western guests start going to Otaru it would be good if they were able to increase their service in english). Breakfast selection was VERY good, and the restaurant staff were super friendly and polite (as were most Japanese people we interacted with). Onsen was very good. Excellent location across from the train station, and easy walking distance to all kinds of very cool little restaurants and the historical district.

David

This is the closest hotel to the Otaru train/bus station and a 7/11 store, which are directly across the street. The hotel has six coin laundry machines for guests in the locker rooms for the on-site onsens, which were wonderful to use after a day of skiing. Free ramen after 9:30pm is a nice touch, as most restaurants in Otaru aren't open much after 8pm if you return late, and the ramen was pretty good! Very pleasant experience for a good price. Would stay again!
